Welcome our Heroes on their return home.
Though there is no organized ceremony, everyone is invited to welcome home our flight at MacArthur Airport. The suggested arrival time for supporters who wish to welcome home the Honor Flight is an hour prior to the returning flight.
*All are advised to check the Southwest website in case of delays.
This is a SAMPLE ITINERARY:
Our group will muster at Long Island MacArthur Airport two hours before departure to check in, issue boarding passes name tags, and souvenir T-shirts, meet and greet, take pictures, and get through security.
The flight is a quick hour to Baltimore Washington International Airport where a waiting motor coach takes us on the 50-minute drive to Washington DC and the WWII, Korean and Vietnam Memorials. We eat lunch on the bus and watch a great video about how these Memorials came to be.
We usually spend time at the WWII memorial, frequently among Honor Flight groups from other parts of the country. We take a group picture of all veterans and guardians at this time. If family or friends will be meeting you in D.C., you should tell them to meet our group at our first Memorial stop of the day.
We will visit Arlington National Cemetery and depending on weather, traffic and timing we might visit the Navy Memorial, the Air Force Memorial, or other area high-points.
We’ll have dinner at the airport where we can take a little more time to relax and enjoy our group. The return flight is a quick hour, then we're home.
The only thing the veterans are responsible for is getting themselves to and home from the airport. If getting a ride is a real issue, we can help with that. Call Jamie Bowden, 631 702-2423.
