Major Matthew Castagna proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, dedicating his life to the service of his country and his fellow Marines. A native of Deer Park, he entered Officer Candidate School following college and earned his designation as a Cobra helicopter pilot.


Deployments:

• Middle East and Djibouti – Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Aviation Squadrons

• Afghanistan – 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO)

After eight years serving as a pilot, Major Castagna deployed to Afghanistan, where he served on the ground in a critical operational role with 2nd ANGLICO.

• Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal


Like many who have served in combat, Major Castagna faced the lasting and often unseen impacts of war. Despite these challenges, his strength, resilience, and faith remained constant throughout his life.


He is remembered as a natural leader, a loyal friend, and a man who exemplified the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment—truly embodying the spirit of Semper Fidelis.


Major Castagna’s legacy is one of service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to others. He will be deeply missed and forever honored.
